Office 2007 tops on PC World most innovative product of the year

December 29, 2006

I completely agree.  Office 2007 is one of the most innovative and useful products from Microsoft. It is a class part and I believe on other application in its genre can match with it.

It was designed based on a lot of feedback from the users and I am sure people are loving it.

Man treks Grand Canyon 100 times in ’06

Dec. 20: One man is celebrating his 80th birthday by crossing the Grand Canyon 106 times. KSL-TV’s John Hollenhorst has his amazing story.

We barely did a part of it once – half way to the river bed.

All of our ages put together will probably be this single guy’s age(well that’s an exaggeration :-)).  And we were in a bad shape the whole week after that. None-the-less it was an unforgettable experience

Hats off to this guy! A great way to celebrate indeed!

Miel and Microsoft

December 22, 2006
I just picked from Nathan’s blog that Miel will be joining Microsoft. I am really excited about this and hope that all the cool Live products and other Microsoft products will get some good representation since the press does not seeming to be doing that well.
Here is a picture(advertisement) from Miel’s blog which I really like.

Wind fuels cargo ship

December 21, 2006

A germany based firm called SkySails have managed to turn

wind into profit CNET reports. Its a simple yet amazing step towards cutting fuel costs. More importantly it is good for the environment also.  Smaller ships/boats have historically used sails but never, I believe, for cargo ships.

520 – Floating on water

December 13, 2006

Technorati tags:

This number is a very important to me. Because I take this highway everyday. A part of this highway is the Evergreen floating point bridge over Lake Washington. The bridge is extremely close to water and I always wondered why it is the way it is.

Earlier today I was driving to work with Ramya and after a long wait in the traffic we finally got on to the bridge. It was extremely windy and the waves were, well, pretty dramatic.  My car was shaking a lot and we were both feeling a bit queasy. It was almost like driving a car with a flat tire. But the traffic was moving along and so did I. Right about when we were in the middle of the bridge, I changed my lane amidst all the shaking and right at that time there was a huge splash on the windshield. It was the waves crashing against the bridge.

It was a pretty unexpected experience. After getting at my desk the first thing I did was searched for "520 floating bridge". I was amazed by I found. Here are some facts

* It is indeed a floating bridge. It does not have pillars and the bridge deck is supported on pontoons!!! The bridge swings in high wind conditions which was causing the car to shake!

* It is the longest floating bridge! – 7,578 feet (2,310 meters)

520 Bridge

* The bridge was designed for 65,000 vehicles to pass over its span each day. Currently about 115,000 vehicles rely on the bridge!

It is scary and humbling now that I know the facts. And I thought it atleast deserved a blog entry.
